Coffee Chat Take 3: Why I Made My Health a Non-Negotiable and What It Taught Me About Business
Welcome to another Coffee Chat Take! A bite-sized episode designed to feel like a quick voice note from a friend who gets it.
Today, I’m pulling back the curtain on a boundary I reinforced this summer that changed more than just my energy levels. It changed how I lead in my personal life and in my business.
If you’ve been telling yourself “I’ll get to that later” when it comes to your own needs, this one’s for you.
We’re talking about why I made my health a non-negotiable, what had to shift to make that happen, and how the lessons I’ve learned are directly impacting the way I run my business.
Spoiler: it has everything to do with support, structure, and sustainable growth and nothing to do with doing more.
In this short but powerful episode, I’m showing you how investing in your own well-being isn’t just a personal win, it’s a leadership decision. If you’ve been craving more focus and clarity, but life and business feel too full to start, this is your invitation to reset.

Well, hello again, my friend. In today's coffee chat, take, I'm going to take you behind the scenes of something personal that's been going on in my life, which has changed the way that I lead, not just at home but in my business. So a few months ago I made a decision to make my health a priority. It was no longer optional, it has become a non-negotiable. Now it's not that I was completely ignoring my health before, because I was working out here and there and I was trying to make better food choices. Most of the time I failed. But, if I'm being honest, I wasn't really challenging myself or holding myself accountable, so I wasn't making the kind of progress that I wanted. And it started to show not just in how I looked but in how I felt. So one day I was scrolling through recent photos on my phone and let me tell you I had to get your life together moment. You know the time when reality kind of blindside you, and that's when the light bulb went off, that I needed more accountability, more structure and a challenge. So I decided it was time for me to get some skin in the game and I reached out to my former personal trainer and made arrangements for weekly sessions. Now I already knew that she was not going to take it easy on me, but that's exactly why I reached out to her in the first place, because I didn't want another check the box routine. I wanted results and I wanted accountability, and I knew I couldn't get there on my own.
Speaker 1:Something else I did was starting getting my meals delivered, and it's not because I don't know what to eat, but it's because I really don't have the bandwidth to keep planning and prepping food for myself every single week and cooking for my family. So when I tried to do that, I would fall into ruts. I got tired of eating the same thing and sometimes I would just skip the meal plan altogether. So that's another part of the reason why I wasn't succeeding and why I wasn't feeling my best. So it was time to take that decision-making off my plate, literally. And the most important part that people tend to skip over with stuff like this I had to go in. I mean all in mentally, financially and physically. In. I mean all in mentally, financially and physically. This would make spaces for the choices that I needed to make. So I knew I had to cut back on some things, including my wine and whiskey and if you know me, you know that's a big shift, but I still have my morning cup of coffee. But I'm really serious about this next chapter and the results that I want, and I know it requires some trade-offs.
Speaker 1:But now here's where the business lesson comes in. The whole journey for me up to this point reminded me of something I tell my clients all the time Growth doesn't come from hustle or kind of trying. It comes from changing your mindset, investing in the right support and building the structure you need to succeed. So you don't get results just because you want them. You get results when you set your priority, decide what you're no longer available for and then build systems and boundaries that protect that decision. So right now I do personal training once a week, but I still have three to four other workout days that I have to do on my own. So I have to make time for those workouts and that means protecting space in my schedule for them.
Speaker 1:And with the summer heat wave that we've been having in my area, I've been trying to get up early to knock out my cardio before the sun turns everything into a sauna, because if I wait until later, I know I probably won't do it and let me be honest, sometimes I succeed and sometimes I don't. But here's what's been so unexpected on this journey the more I honor this boundary, the more everything else feels clear. I'm sharper, I'm more focused, I feel better, I look better and, because of that, I lead better. So let me ask you this, from one woman building something meaningful to another what's something you keep saying you'll get to later, but already know would make a huge difference in your life or your business if you made it a priority right now, where are you settling for good enough, when what you really need is support, accountability and systems that help you follow through? Because the truth is the same mindset that helps you show up for yourself personally. It's the same one that helps you create real, sustainable growth in your business.
Speaker 1:So, whether it's creating a healthier lifestyle or cleaning up the back end of your business, the formula is the same Decide what matters, invest in the right support, reinforce your boundaries and, if this has you thinking about your next step in your business or your personal life and what it would look like to finally have the structure you want and support you need so you can stop spinning your wheels, please DM me on Instagram at the underscore Shannon Baker, and let's talk about it. I can help you figure out what the right next step could be. Or if you're ready to undertake your own personal journey to a healthier lifestyle, let's talk about that too, because, no matter what, I know you've got goals, so let's make sure your life and your business are built to support them. So that's the end of today's Coffee Chat Tea. Remember no pressure, just progress. So I'll see you next time.
